Our stunning Falmouth project is featured on TV’s Grand Designs

Our stunning Ecohouse project in Falmouth has been featured on popular home building show Grand Designs this week.
The home of self-builders Kathryn Tyler and partner Chris is a stunning contemporary design.
Ecohouse provided the building regulations design for the four bedroom home and studio. Kathryn, an interior designer, project managed the project herself with our help. Ecohouse director Robin van der Bij said: “We are really proud to have been involved in such a stunning home. Not only have Catherine and Chris now got a wonderful contemporary home to live in, they can also be confident that its long term impact on the environment is minimal.”
The Grand Designs team visited the site several times during the year long build, meeting and interviewing Ecohouse director about the home’s detailed design during one of their visits.
The home is partly timber frame, clad in cedar wood and partly painted brick. It features 250 mm of recycled newspaper insulation and 150mm Kingspan insulation. Airtight construction and triple glazed windows keep the cold out and the heat in. Air quality is maintained with a heat recovery ventilation system. Solar thermal panels heat the home’s hot water, which also feeds the underfloor heating. A woodburner provides extra space heating for the coldest winter days.
The episode featuring Catherine and Chris’ home aired on Wednesday 20 October at 9pm on Channel 4.
